The modern repurposing of Saint Paul Prison
Discover the architectural conversion of an iconic building in Perrache neighborhood

After a multi-year renovation project, UCLy’s new campus opened in 2015.

The former Saint Paul Prison was converted into the interior of the modern campus, linking the past with the present.

The conversion of the St. Paul and St. Joseph prisons, representative of 19th century prison architecture, is part of Lyon’s larger plans to revitalize Perrache.

Highlights of the visit :

  • The former entrance to Saint Paul Prison.

  • Saint Irénée Chapel.

  • Panoramic views of Lyon’s Confluence neighborhood and Notre-Dame de Fourvière.

  • Catholic University of Lyon's (UCLy) modern campus facilities (gym, Learning Lab…).

  • Access to one of three former prison yards.
