The modern repurposing of Saint Paul Prison
Discover the architectural conversion of an iconic building in Perrache neighborhood

After a multi-year renovation project, UCLy’s new campus opened in 2015.

The former Saint Paul Prison was converted into the interior of the modern campus, linking the past with the present.

​

The conversion of the St. Paul and St. Joseph prisons, representative of 19th century prison architecture, is part of Lyon’s larger plans to revitalize Perrache.

 

Highlights of the visit :

​

  • The former entrance to Saint Paul Prison.

  • Saint Irénée Chapel.

  • Panoramic views of Lyon’s Confluence neighborhood and Notre-Dame de Fourvière.

  • Catholic University of Lyon's (UCLy) modern campus facilities (gym, Learning Lab…).

  • Access to one of three former prison yards.

Groups : tour in english of 1.5 hours, during the week and on Saturdays, on prior request.

Cost 11€ per person (groups between 15 and 30 personns)
